About Lab-On-a-Chip Applications Development (LOCAD)
The Lab-On-a-Chip Application Development (LOCAD) Team is a collaborative effort between government, industry and academia. The LOCAD team formed in 2001 and began preparation of the LOCAD Portable Test System (LOCAD-PTS) for space flight in 2004. The LOCAD-PTS was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) onboard Space Shuttle Discovery in December 2006 and first operated on ISS in March 2007. The LOCAD team is committed to providing the latest in multi-functional, rapid, point-of-use technology for the detection and monitoring of biological molecules.
